How do you really feel about that celebrity who just died?

Welcome to Rip Rank...and what the hell is this all about?!

How do you really feel about that celebrity who just died?

Rip Rank is an idea that has been floating around my noggin for several years. The online social avalanche of "Rest In Peace" posts some famous people (luminaries) receive can be eye-popping while others die and only get a notice from one or two friends. I thought it would be interesting to aggregate these notices and generate a ranking chart.

Rip Rank derives the foundational luminary ranking from external signals like Wikipedia pageviews, Reddit mentions and YouTube views, but they are not enough on their own. You can RIP (e.g. “like”) rate, or review any luminary in the system, and this input directly shapes their ranking.

We also feature curations like lists, tiers, and grids, and appearances on these will also impact a luminary's overall score. Go ahead and try them out!

Lastly, I’d like to thank all of the friends and family that helped test the site and share feedback. Above all a massive thanks to my colleague, Matt Kircher, who provided much needed moral support and user experience help. The site would look like total ass without him!
