How Rip Rank turns attention, appreciation, and argument into a living score.
Rip Rank blends human judgment with public attention signals. The point is not to declare final historical truth. It is to measure how much cultural energy still surrounds a luminary after death.
What feeds the score
Internal signals come from Rip Rank itself: RIPs, ratings, reviews, likes, and public curations such as lists and tiers. External signals come from public platforms: Wikipedia pageview trends, YouTube activity, and Reddit discussion volume.
Rough weighting
The current score is a weighted blend of internal community signals and external attention signals. The exact formula is still being tuned as the community grows, but the intended shape is roughly 70% external public-interest signals and 30% Rip Rank community signals.
That balance keeps early rankings from being dominated by a small number of user actions while still giving real humans room to RIP, rate, review, and curate.
Refresh cadence
Signals refresh in tiers. Recently deceased or high-interest luminaries are checked more often; long-tail luminaries refresh less frequently. Missing signals are prioritized first so new or incomplete profiles can catch up without flooding external providers.
In practice, Reddit hot-tier checks run daily, warm/cold tiers spread across weekly and monthly windows, pageview and YouTube refreshes are scheduled separately, and a periodic rescore recombines stored signals into current rankings.
Limits and corrections
Automated data can be incomplete or wrong. If you see a biographical error, mismatched image, or harmful context problem, please use the corrections policy.
